HOLDEN, Mass. (Aug. 16, 2025) — Holden firefighters spent two days battling multiple emergencies, including a four-alarm structure fire in Rutland and a difficult brush fire on Broad Street at Bryant Road.
Crews assisted Rutland on Friday with the multi-alarm fire, while also covering calls in Holden. Among them was a brush fire that was hard to access and slow to extinguish.
Firefighters returned to the same brush fire site Saturday morning to continue overhaul and extinguishment operations. Crews were still cleaning up as of midday, officials said.
The department reminded residents that drought conditions have heightened fire danger and urged caution with smoking materials and illegal outdoor burning.
Mutual aid was provided by fire departments from Rutland, Sterling, Hubbardston, Paxton, Boylston, West Boylston and Worcester, along with Worcester EMS. Holden’s CERT team, public works crews, police and Wachusett Regional Dispatch also supported the response.
