CHARLTON, Mass. (Aug. 6, 2025) — Firefighters in Charlton conducted hands-on training Wednesday on drafting water from a dry hydrant, a key skill for rural firefighting in areas without municipal hydrants.
Firefighter Jesse Nye worked with probationary firefighter Martin Biela on the exercise, which also served as a functional test of the dry hydrant system to ensure its piping remained intact and free of leaks.
The session was part of the department’s driver training program, designed to keep members prepared to supply water during emergencies in the town’s rural sections.
