STURBRIDGE, Mass. (Aug. 13, 2025) — Firefighters responded Wednesday evening to a smoke condition at Tantasqua Regional Junior High School after a fire alarm activation led to a first-alarm assignment, officials said.
Sturbridge crews were dispatched at 6:36 p.m., with an automatic aid engine from Brookfield also sent under department procedures for high-hazard buildings.
Firefighters entered the unoccupied school and found smoke in the boys’ locker room. After deploying thermal imagers, crews discovered the source was a small electrical fire in an overhead light bank in the girls’ locker room. The fire had burned itself out before their arrival.
No extension to other rooms was found, and no injuries were reported. Crews ventilated the school to clear heavy smoke, with Tower 1 deploying its aerial for roof operations.
School and town officials were on scene, and all fire units cleared at 8:46 p.m.
