LITTLE COMPTON, RI — August 20, 2026 — Late on Thursday nite, the Little Compton Fire Department responded to a reported building fire on Stone Church Road. They found the fire in a crawlspace and used pressurized water cans to put it out.

Engine 1 and Tanker 1 of the Little Compton Fire Department were sent to the Stone Church Road and Main Street area at around 11:55 p.m. in response to a complaint of a potential basement fire with smoke coming from a house.

The Tiverton Fire Department was asked for more resources. After it was established that the fire was a structure fire, the East Bay Tanker Task Force was summoned. However, the task force response was later canceled when crews concluded that Little Compton and Tiverton firemen could handle the situation. When workers arrived, they found exterior damage at the Charlie/Delta corner of the building and smoke within the house. Firefighters were led to a crawlspace that was reachable from the basement. Crews found the region of origin after entering the crawlspace.

Pressurized water cans were used by firefighters to contain the fire. After then, other workers started overhaul operations to make sure the fire had not spread to other parts of the building and to check for fire extension.

Additionally, a rescue from the Westport Fire Department in Massachusetts was sent to assess a first responder. Transportation was not necessary for the respondent.

The town building official and the Rhode Island State Fire Marshal's Office arrived on the scene. There were no reported injuries.

The fire is still being investigated, according to the Little Compton Fire Department.
