Providence Canteen 4 Responded to Second-Alarm Structure Fire in Barrington

BARRINGTON, RI — August 18 — Providence Canteen 4 responded this morning to 108 Washington Road in Barrington for a second-alarm structure fire.The response was recorded by the Special Signal Fire Association / Providence Canteen around 4:30 a.m.
The address involved was St. Luke’s Catholic Church, which provided its location as 108 Washington Road. According to news reports, Barrington firefighters discovered smoke coming from the church and found a small fire in the rear vestibule. The building’s sprinkler system helped put out most of the fire before firefighters used a hose line to finish extinguishing the remaining flames. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Canteen units contributed to the response by supplying refreshments for personnel stationed at the scene.
Second-alarm incidents require more staff and support resources as crews carry out fire suppression and other operations at the scene. The Special Signal Fire Association / Providence Canteen is based at 100 Minnesota Avenue, Warwick, Rhode Island.
