STURBRIDGE, Mass. (Aug. 2, 2025) — A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 early Saturday left several people injured, including one patient who was airlifted to a Worcester hospital, officials said.
The crash was reported just after 1 a.m. on the westbound side. Sturbridge Ambulance 2 and Rescue 1 arrived to find one person trapped in a vehicle with injuries. Crews freed the patient as Ambulance 2 began care.
LifeFlight was requested, with Massachusetts State Police providing a landing zone near their barracks. Fog forced the helicopter to divert to Southbridge Airport, where Sturbridge crews transported the patient for transfer to UMass Memorial Medical Center.
Southbridge Fire assisted with securing the landing zone and provided an ambulance to transport additional patients to Harrington Hospital.
Responding agencies included Sturbridge Fire, Southbridge Fire, Massachusetts State Police and UMass LifeFlight.
