On Wednesday evening, 20 August 2025, at approximately 7:18 p.m., the Sterling Fire/Rescue team established a landing zone near the Rhode Island state line, at the intersection of Routes 14 and 14A. The medic helicopter was requested to assist the Oneco Fire Department, which was performing an extrication of a victim involved in a serious motor vehicle accident.

Sterling crews worked under time pressure to clear and secure the designated touchdown area, ensuring safety for both the flight crew and responding firefighters. The patient was airlifted from the scene by helicopter, while ground crews remained on-site to complete their operations.

This rapid deployment of air and ground resources highlights the effective coordination between departments during critical emergencies. An update from Sterling Fire/Rescue confirmed that all personnel and resources were cleared and returned to service shortly after the medevac departure.
