SARDINIA, N.Y. (Aug. 29, 2025) — Firefighters from Chaffee-Sardinia and East Concord fire departments conducted joint training drills this month focused on rapid intervention, CPR and EMS support during structure fires.
The training, held Aug. 11 and Aug. 29, emphasized teamwork in handling firefighter mayday situations. Crews practiced positioning ambulances, planning evacuation routes and performing rapid CPR on firefighters in full protective gear.
The drills concluded with a simulated structure fire, during which a firefighter became separated from a search team and was declared unconscious. A mayday was called, and crews practiced removing the firefighter from the building while EMS teams staged outside to begin immediate care.
EMS Lt. Alexis Kozmycz of Chaffee-Sardinia and EMS Chief Greg Stowell of East Concord were credited with organizing the training and guiding participants through lectures, skills stations and scenario-based exercises.
Officials said the training strengthened cooperation between the two departments and streamlined emergency response procedures.
