On Thursday, 7 August 2025, at approximately 1:21 p.m., the South Killingly Fire Department, supported by automatic aid from neighboring departments, responded to a structure fire at 1332 Hartford Pike in East Killingly. Upon arrival, crews found a multi-story residential building fully involved, with the fire progressing rapidly through the structure. Immediate exterior suppression tactics were implemented to prevent fire spread, with tanker shuttles used to supply water due to the absence of nearby hydrants.
The operation lasted for several hours and required extensive coordination among regional fire departments. Tragically, the incident resulted in one victim suffering serious injuries; the individual was evacuated from the scene and transported by helicopter to a hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. South Killingly Fire Department extended their thoughts to all those affected and commended the teamwork that helped prevent further tragedy.
The Killingly Fire Marshal’s Office, in partnership with the Connecticut State Police Fire & Explosives Investigative Unit, continues to investigate the fire's cause.
