On Monday evening, 11 August 2025, the Pomfret Fire Department assisted local partners in rescuing a horse trapped in a swamp in Thompson’s Quinebaug section. Crews worked skillfully with specialized horse rescue equipment to free the animal and safely return her to her stable, marking a successful outcome for all involved.
This operation marked the first collaboration between Pomfret Fire and those local responders, and officials praised the effective teamwork and coordination. A representative shared, “A lot of great minds and our specialized horse rescue equipment worked well together for this great outcome.”
