MILLINOCKET, Maine (Aug. 13, 2025) — A wildfire broke out Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Route 157 and Huber Road after power lines came down, according to Millinocket fire officials.
The fire was reported at 2:55 p.m. Crews arrived to find flames spreading into the woods as Maine Department of Transportation workers attempted to contain it.
Millinocket units 780, 783 and 788 responded, with East Millinocket Fire called in for support due to high fire danger conditions. The Maine Forest Service also sent a ranger, two trucks, a wildland engine and three firefighters.
Firefighters used three handlines to bring the fire under control and extinguish hot spots. Baxter Park Rangers and East Millinocket crews assisted on scene, while Versant Power responded to address the downed lines.
Route 157 was briefly closed by East Millinocket police as crews worked. About 1,000 gallons of water were used, and 12 personnel were involved in the operation. No injuries were reported.
Crews cleared the scene roughly an hour after the initial call.
Earlier in the day, Millinocket firefighters also handled two public assist calls, one unauthorized burn, one EMS call and a mutual aid EMS request to Lincoln.
Officials urged residents to avoid outdoor burning during the current period of high fire danger.
