Thursday evening, 7 August 2025 – Members of the Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Company held an extrication training session on the drill grounds, designed to test both technical proficiency and critical thinking under pressure.
After a review of stabilization and extrication tools, firefighters rotated through multiple scenarios. One evolution involved a victim pinned under an unstable object, requiring stabilization and the use of high-pressure airbags for removal. Crews then transitioned to a vehicle extrication drill, where they stabilized the vehicle and performed full removal of doors, the roof, and dash displacement to free a trapped patient.
Members assigned to patient care inside the vehicle practiced bleeding control and patient stabilization techniques in a confined environment, simulating real-world challenges faced by emergency responders.
The company extended thanks to Floyd’s Garage for providing vehicles, which make this type of hands-on training possible.
