CLIFTON, NJ - A small homeless encampment was destroyed on the morning of September 1st, leaving an unknown amount of people once again without a place with some protection.
Clifton fire units were sent to 381 E. 1st St. at about 7:30 A.M. A column of smoke was visible as units approached. The shacks along the railroad tracks up against a one-story masonry garage attached to a large commercial enterprise were heavily involved, and the flames were extending to the roof area of the garage.
Companies knocked down the outside fire as others opened up the garage and stretched a line inside. All fire was quickly knocked and a check for extension proved negative. Companies picked up and were soon able to be released. There were no reported injuries.
