Attleboro, MA - Attleboro firefighters battled a well-involved garage fire Tuesday morning, successfully stopping the flames from spreading into an attached residence and limiting damage to the home.

The Attleboro Fire Department received multiple calls reporting a structure fire on Burt Street shortly before 10 a.m. First-arriving crews found the attached garage fully involved, along with a vehicle on fire. Flames had already consumed much of the garage and were extending toward the connected home.

Firefighters also encountered live electrical wires sparking across the driveway, creating an additional hazard as crews began their operations. Firefighters immediately launched an aggressive attack on the garage fire while additional personnel entered the residence to search for occupants and check for any extension of the fire.

On August 25, crews extinguished the main fire in approximately 20 minutes, stopping the flames at the garage before they could reach the home's living areas. The residence sustained only minimal smoke damage, although three vehicles were damaged in the incident.

District Chief Michael Maitland said the fire was already well advanced when firefighters arrived and that the live electrical wires created an additional challenge. He credited the crews with containing the fire and keeping damage to the residence to a minimum.

Firefighters remained at the scene after the flames were extinguished to ventilate the residence, conduct overhaul operations and check for hidden pockets of fire that could potentially reignite.

One Attleboro firefighter was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Two residents suffered minor burn injuries but declined transportation to the hospital.
