NEWBURY, N.H. (Sept. 1, 2025) — Firefighters and paramedics rescued a hiker in distress Monday morning on the Williamson Trail at Mount Sunapee, officials said.

Newbury Fire Rescue and New London Ambulance were dispatched at 7:56 a.m. Crews stayed in contact with the hiker by cell phone and set up a staging area at the Sun Bowl ski lift base.

A Mount Sunapee Resort maintenance crew assisted with an ATV, which transported EMS personnel up the trail. The hiker was evaluated at the scene and brought down by ATV to the staging area.

New London Ambulance paramedics then treated the hiker and transported the patient to New London Hospital. Newbury crews cleared the scene at 8:49 a.m.

Officials reminded visitors that no overnight camping or campfires are permitted on Sunapee State Park trails. The only camping on Mount Sunapee is at the state park campground. Fire danger in the area remains high.
