FRANKLIN, N.H. (Aug. 30, 2025) — Fire tore through part of a three-story apartment building on Elkins Street Saturday morning, drawing crews from across the region to help bring the blaze under control.

The City of Franklin Fire Department was dispatched at 9:27 a.m. to 39 Elkins Street. Crews from Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS and Sanbornton Fire Department responded under automatic aid.

Engine 4, staffed with three firefighters, reported smoke visible from Central Street and requested a first alarm. Firefighters entering the structure found flames in the rear corner of the building and spreading into the roof and walls, according to fire officials.

A third alarm brought companies from as far as Meredith and Gilmanton. Crews worked for several hours in difficult conditions before containing the fire.

The building housed four units, but only one was occupied. That resident was not home when the fire broke out. Neighbors spotted the flames and called 911.

No injuries were reported, and firefighters rescued one pet that was later reunited with its owner.

Mutual aid was provided by Bristol, Tilton-Northfield, Sanbornton, Belmont, Hill, Concord, New Hampton, Andover, Laconia, Gilford, Canterbury, Salisbury and Meredith fire departments. Penacook Rescue Squad and Gilmanton Fire Department covered Franklin stations and handled one additional medical call during the incident.
