On Friday, August 15, Grafton County Dispatch transmitted a General Alarm for a boat reported smoking and taking on water on Moore Reservoir.
Engine 1, along with Utility 1 towing Boat 1, made the initial response. Car 2 established a command post at Knocky’s Landing at the end of Old Waterford Road to coordinate operations.
The General Alarm brought in both call and off-duty staff, adding Ambulance 1 to the response. Using New Hampshire 911’s RapidSOS feature, dispatch provided firefighters with the vessel’s exact location. Crews quickly launched Boat 1, reached the distressed craft, and worked with the operator to stabilize it before towing it safely back to shore.
All three occupants were uninjured. The Littleton Police Department assisted on scene. New Hampshire Marine Patrol was contacted but was unavailable to respond.
Chief Miller stated: “Our firefighters’ ability to quickly access, stabilize, and tow the boat removed the hazard. Moore Reservoir is a busy recreational area, and removing the vessel from the water prevented both an eyesore along the shoreline and the risk of fuel or oil entering the water.”
While units were engaged on the reservoir, the department also responded to a separate medical emergency.
