After assisting with the multi-day wildfire in Castine earlier this week, our crews were called this evening to Surry for an escaped campfire that spread to a shed and into the surrounding woods.
Thanks to a quick response and strong mutual aid support from Ellsworth, Blue Hill, Orland, Penobscot, and the Maine Forest Service, the fire was contained and extinguished before it could threaten additional structures.
Wildfire danger remains high across the region, and no open burn permits are being issued. Tonight’s incident is an important reminder that even small, recreational campfires in fire pits must never be left unattended.
