WOOLWICH, Maine (Aug. 18, 2025) — Woolwich firefighters rescued a person trapped in a vehicle Monday morning after a multi-car crash on Route 1, officials said.

Firefighters worked quickly to free the occupant and assisted EMS crews with transport. No update on the patient’s condition was immediately available.

Wiscasset Fire Department handled traffic control on the north end of the scene, while the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Department of Transportation and MC1 also provided assistance.

Woolwich officials urged drivers to pull to the right and remain stopped when traffic halts for an accident, citing several recent close calls involving illegal U-turns that nearly caused additional crashes.
