Thursday, 4 September 2025 – The Pomfret-Teago Fire Department announced that the town, along with the rest of Vermont, remained under very high fire danger due to ongoing drought conditions.
As a result, a strict prohibition on all outdoor burning was in place. Officials warned that extremely dry fuels, coupled with forecasted winds, could lead to the rapid spread of wildfire if burning were attempted. Residents were urged to exercise vigilance and do their part to prevent forest fires.
The department also recognized Frank Perron, who retired after more than two decades of service as Pomfret’s Fire Warden. Officials expressed gratitude for his dedication and contributions to the community over the years.
With Perron’s retirement, Fire Chief Jacob Astbury has assumed the role of Fire Warden. His contact information will be distributed throughout the town, and the department noted that updates on the permitting process will be shared once conditions improve and safe burning periods return.
The department reminded residents to dial 911 for emergencies, as its social media page and messenger are not continuously monitored.
