BOWDOINHAM, Maine (Aug. 12, 2025) — Bowdoinham Fire/Rescue spent more than a week fighting two separate woods fires in remote areas near the Cathance River, with support from neighboring departments and state rangers.
The first fire broke out Sunday, Aug. 3, in a hard-to-reach area off the river. Crews relied on a drone and boat to help locate the blaze, guided by Sagadahoc County Communications Center. Bowdoin and Richmond fire departments and Maine Forest Ranger Welch assisted.
Firefighters returned Monday to dig up hot spots and soak the area. They revisited the scene several times that week, finding a newly built firepit at the same location three days later.
On Friday, Aug. 8, Bowdoinham responded to another woods fire off Fisher Road. That blaze was easier to access and was contained more quickly, with help from Bowdoin, Richmond and the Maine Forest Rangers.
Crews returned Tuesday, Aug. 12, to the Fisher Road site to extinguish lingering hot spots.
