BUCKSPORT, Maine (Aug. 24, 2025) — A malfunctioning dryer sparked a fire that displaced two people Sunday morning in a two-unit apartment building on U.S. Route 1, officials said.
Crews arrived shortly after 11 a.m. to find smoke and fire on the first floor, according to the Bucksport Fire Department. The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate.
Investigators determined the fire started in a bathroom of the first-floor unit. Both apartments were ruled uninhabitable.
Two cats died in the fire. No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters.
