DUMMERSTON, Vt. (Aug. 16, 2025) — A third-alarm fire broke out at 461 Miller Road on Saturday afternoon, drawing crews from multiple departments and leaving one firefighter with minor injuries, officials said.

The Dummerston Fire Department was dispatched at 3:34 p.m. and arrived to find heavy fire showing from the building. Putney firefighters reported visible smoke from their station moments after the first alarm, prompting a second alarm.

When Dummerston Engine 1 confirmed the fire conditions, a third alarm was struck and additional tanker support requested. Firefighters from several towns worked to bring the fire under control by 5:12 p.m. Crews remained at the scene until after midnight, with Dummerston units staying overnight on fire watch.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Vermont State Police Fire Investigation Unit and the Vermont State Fire Marshal’s Office.
