Tire Fire leads to Mutual Aid Response

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21st, the Forestport Fire Department was dispatched to 9004 Trestle Road following reports of a structure fire threatening a tire pile behind an automotive repair shop.

?En route, responding units observed a heavy smoke plume in the distance. Upon arrival, crews conducted a 360-degree assessment of the property and confirmed a heavy fire burning behind the shop, centered in a large pile of old tires.

?Attack lines were stretched immediately to the rear of the building to contain the flames. Because the area lacks hydrant access, additional tankers were requested to the scene, and a remote water fill site was established to maintain a steady water supply.

?Thanks to swift coordination, crews had the fire under control within an hour and a half, shifting focus to overhaul and soaking the area to prevent rekindling.
