At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, the Remsen Fire Department was alerted to a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident with reported injuries at the intersection of State Route 12 and Dustin Road, in front of the Kayuta Drive-In.
Mutual aid was initiated, and additional ambulance resources were requested due to the unavailability of nearby ambulances, which were already committed to other calls. Lyons Falls Ambulance, which was in the area returning from another call, advised that it was available to respond and transport a patient. Kuyahoora Ambulance was also requested to respond and transport an additional patient.
Both patients were transported to area medical facilities with injuries reported to be non-life-threatening.
The Forestport Fire Department was requested to assist with traffic control. Due to the holiday weekend and the location of the accident along a major thoroughfare, traffic was reduced to a single lane through the accident scene.
Preliminary information indicates that a black Chevrolet SUV was traveling northbound on State Route 12 while a white Buick was traveling southbound. The two vehicles collided within the intersection, with preliminary indications suggesting that the white Buick turned in front of the northbound SUV. Both vehicles came to rest near the northbound side of the intersection.
The New York State Police and Oneida County Sheriff's Office were on scene and assisted with the investigation. Vehicle removal and towing services were provided by Shufelt's Towing and Eli's Towing.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation at the time of this report.
