BERLIN, Vt. (Aug. 2, 2025) — Firefighters from Berlin and surrounding towns knocked down a basement fire Saturday evening that damaged a home but caused no injuries, officials said.

The fire was reported around 8:19 p.m. in the 1100 block of Bartlett Road. Occupants told crews the blaze started in the basement.

A first alarm brought mutual aid from Montpelier, Northfield, Moretown and Williamstown fire departments, along with Barre Town Ambulance. Barre Town Fire also sent an engine to cover.

The Berlin duty officer added a tanker task force, summoning units from Waterbury, Middlesex, East Montpelier, Barre Town and Northfield. Berlin Rescue 1, returning from another call, arrived almost simultaneously with Montpelier.

Crews made a quick knockdown that saved a significant portion of the home and its contents, fire officials said. Preliminary indications pointed to a household tool battery charging system and several batteries as the possible source.
