The Limerick Fire Department was dispatched at 3:15 pm to a reported vehicle fire on Fruitville Road. Battalion 51, Engine 51, Fire Police, and Limerick Police responded. An explosion was reportedly heard from the fuel truck in the brake chamber. A nearby resident tried to help by using a fire extinguisher before the Engine arrived. The Engine crew immediately pulled a line and put water on the small fire, cooling the back of the truck and averting a potentially devastating incident. Fire Police shut down the section of Fruitville Rd between Swamp Pike and Pruss Hill Rd for the duration of the call. All were made available within the hour.
