Thursday, 28 August 2025 – The Atwood Hose Fire Company participated in a townwide training exercise with a focus on tanker operations, a critical component in areas without hydrant access.
Atwood’s assignment was to manage the tanker fill site, where HT196 drafted from a pond to establish a reliable water source. Firefighters set up a basic fill point using a manifold to keep operations efficient.
Mutual aid partners — including Moosup Fire Department, Central Village Fire Company Station 97, and Plainfield Fire Company #1 — ran a short loop to the dump site and then returned to refill. This rotation allowed crews to practice the steady supply of water that is essential during large-scale fires.
Department officials emphasized that hands-on training like this leads to smoother operations at real emergency scenes, ensuring firefighters are ready to work seamlessly together when it matters most.
