MILFORD, Conn. (Aug. 26, 2025) — A box truck struck debris and ruptured its fuel tank Tuesday afternoon, spilling diesel and forcing the closure of Exit 36 southbound on Interstate 95, officials said.
The driver called 911 immediately and used a spill kit to contain the leak before crews arrived, according to the Milford Fire Department.
Firefighters used absorbent material to block the flow and slowed the leak to a drip. The department’s hazardous materials team worked with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to further contain the spill.
Officials said no diesel reached storm drains or waterways. The exit remained closed for an extended period while crews operated on scene.
