Front-end loader fire closes Rawson Road in Lyndon; no injuries reported
LYNDON, N.Y. (Monday, Aug. 25, 2025) — A front-end loader caught fire Monday evening on Rawson Road in Lyndon, forcing a road closure and prompting an environmental response, officials said.
The Lyndon Fire Company was dispatched at 5:59 p.m. and arrived to find the heavy equipment fully engulfed, according to Chief Wilson. The operator escaped without injury. Crews from Lyndon and Ischua fire departments used a hand line and tanker support to bring the fire under control.
Because diesel fuel and hydraulic oil entered the runoff, the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s spill response team was called to contain the hazard.
Rawson Road remained closed while the equipment was removed. All fire units cleared the scene by 9:12 p.m., with Chief Wilson staying until 9:36 p.m. to assist the DEC and coordinate with the owner.
