WOODBURY, Vt. (Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025) — Firefighters in Woodbury discovered an unusual culprit after responding to a report of smoke coming from a home’s electrical panel Thursday afternoon — a rat snake had slithered inside, officials said.

The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department said crews investigated the panel with a thermal camera after the homeowner reported smoke. The snake was found inside, prompting calls for both an electrician and pest control.

C & D Electrical and Rescue 1 Pest Control responded, safely removing and relocating the animal.

The department noted the homeowners had just moved in a week earlier, welcoming them to the community.

No injuries or property damage were reported.
