GRAND ISLAND, NY — August 22 — Firefighters arrived at a reported structure fire on Ferry Road on August 22.The Grand Island Fire Company, located at 2275 Baseline Road, was called in at around 7:40 a.m.and found flames coming from the corner of an attached garage.

The Grand Island Fire Company was dispatched at approximately 7:40 a.m.

and reported a working fire.Engine 4 arrived shortly after, and crews began using a 1¾-inch handline while setting up a water supply from a nearby hydrant.

The fire on the exterior was quickly brought under control within minutes.

Firefighters then entered the garage to put out any remaining flames and check for any spread of the fire.Most of the fire was extinguished by 7:58 a.m., and the situation was fully under control by approximately 8:03 a.m.

The City of Tonawanda Professional Firefighters and Sheridan Park Fire District provided assistance at the scene.

The Kenmore Volunteer Fire Department offered standby support at the Grand Island Fire Company headquarters.

Twin City Ambulance Corporation, the Erie County Sheriff's Office, the Grand Island Police Department, and the Town of Grand Island Code Enforcement also helped with the response.

The operation highlighted the importance of mutual-aid efforts, quick access to water supply, and rapid fire suppression in dealing with an attached-garage fire.
