NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. (Sunday, Aug. 11, 2025) — A 5.4-acre brush fire that burned for four days behind North Hampton School was declared under control Sunday afternoon after a large multi-agency response, officials said.

The blaze began Thursday, Aug. 7, and spread quickly through dry vegetation in hot, windy conditions. Crews from New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts worked in extreme heat using hand tools, small water lines and heavy equipment to dig out roots, roll over large logs and extinguish deep-burning embers.

Specialized forestry units and UTVs were deployed to reach difficult terrain, while excavators and front-end loaders widened logging roads to provide access for suppression units. Fire officials said that access was key to preventing the blaze from reaching nearby exposures.

Operations have shifted to a monitoring phase to address lingering hot spots, and light smoke may remain visible for several days.

The North Hampton Fire & Rescue Department thanked the many mutual aid crews and the New Hampshire State Warden Service for their assistance. Officials reminded residents to call 911 if any new flames are observed.
