Massive fire consumes Gorham warehouse

GORHAM, NY - On Saturday, August 30, firefighters responded to a fire on the outside of the building at Eco Operations, at 4611 Dewey Avenue in Gorham.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that the fire had spread to the 57,000 square foot warehouse.
The blaze was fueled by large quantities of alcohol-based hand sanitizer that were being recycled at the facility.
A shelter in place order was issued for those living near the site.
A massive mutual aid response brought Bristol, Canandaigua VA, Cheshire, Crystal Beach, East Bloomfield, Geneva, Hall, Hopewell, Honeoye, Manchester, Naples, North Side, Oaks Corners, Phelps, Seneca Castle, Shortsville, Stanley, West Bloomfield, West Lake Road, White Springs, Branchport, Border City, Benton, Bellona, Junius, Middlesex, Newark, Marion, Dresden and Himrod to the scene
Foam units Syracuse, Rochester, Elmira and Utica along with Monroe County Special Operations, Wayne County Spill Team, NYSDEC, NYSOFPC, NYSEG, Ontario County Sheriff's Office and the Ontario County Office of Emergency Management were also brought in to assist.
Firefighters worked well into the day on August 31, to bring the blaze under control.
There were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
