FRANKLIN, NH - On August 30th, the City of Franklin Fire Department was dispatched to a reported building fire at 9:27 A.M. at 39 Elkins Street. The Tilton-Northfield and Sanbornton Fire Department were also toned as automatic mutual aid.
First due Engine 4 with a crew of three responded from the firehouse and reported smoke showing from Central Street and requested a First Alarm. On arrival, heavy fire was showing from a 3-story apartment building. Firefighters entered the building with hose lines and searched for occupants on the second and third floors.
The fire was already in the roof and walls, and was difficult to reach due to high heat, heavy smoke and fire. A Second and Third Alarm was requested; and it took several hours to knock down the fire and overhaul the building. No injuries were reported.
