THOMASTON, Maine (Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025) — Firefighters in Thomaston extinguished a smoldering fire inside a trailer loaded with wood chips Thursday morning next to the Walmart parking lot, officials said.

Crews arrived to find light smoke coming from a vent in the front of the trailer. A hose line was deployed to cool the load while firefighters worked to access the smoldering pile inside.

An extension ladder was placed to cut into the roof of the trailer, improving access for suppression. Thomaston Public Works assisted with heavy equipment, digging down to the origin of the fire so crews could thoroughly soak the area and prevent rekindling.

No injuries were reported. Fire officials noted the call was challenging due to the limited access to the burning material but credited teamwork with keeping the situation under control.
