CLINTON, Maine (Friday, Aug. 15, 2025) — Firefighters in Clinton battled a woods fire Friday that spread deep into the ground and required extensive mutual aid, officials said.
Crews were first dispatched to Holt Road, where smoke was reported, before locating the fire across the river near Pleasant Street with access from McArthur Road. Clinton Engine 3 and Rescue 5 responded, and mutual aid forestry units and tankers were called from Fairfield-Benton, Burnham, Albion and Skowhegan fire departments.
The Maine Forest Service also responded with a ranger and helicopter. Crews brought the fire under control quickly, but heavy overhaul and digging were needed to extinguish hotspots.
Canaan and Winslow fire departments provided station coverage, and an ambulance was assigned to cover the town during the incident.
No injuries were reported. Fire officials reminded residents that fire danger remains very high and urged the public to refrain from any burning until significant rainfall occurs.
