AVON, Conn. (Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025) — Members of the Avon Volunteer Fire Department recently trained with their ARGO 8×8 Responder, an amphibious utility vehicle used for rescues and brush fires, officials said.

The ARGO, in service since 2017, can operate on land and water and is paired with a trailer for equipment and patient transport. Fire officials said it has proven critical for incidents such as rescuing injured hikers and battling wildfires, including the Hawthorne Fire in Berlin last November.

The department noted the vehicle was acquired through community donations and thanked residents for their continued support.
