BETHEL, Conn. (Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025) — Firefighters from Bethel and Stony Hill extinguished a house fire Tuesday afternoon on Gabriella Court, with tanker trucks from surrounding towns brought in due to the area’s lack of pressurized hydrants, officials said.

The fire was reported around 3:15 p.m. Bethel Assistant Chief (Car 2) assumed command after arriving with Stony Hill’s chief. The home had been evacuated before firefighters entered.

Bethel’s Squad 5 advanced a hoseline to the second floor, where crews found smoke conditions so dense they could not see their hands in front of them. The fire was located in an upstairs bedroom and quickly knocked down.

Tanker trucks from Redding, Newtown, Danbury and Brookfield shuttled water to the scene, while Brookfield firefighters established a rapid intervention team. Bethel’s Engine 6 also accessed a dry hydrant cistern at the end of Gabriella Court to support water supply.

Both Bethel aerial trucks extended to the roof for ventilation. EMS crews from Bethel and Stony Hill, along with Bethel’s paramedic unit, provided firefighter rehabilitation on scene.

Bethel police assisted with traffic control, while Newtown and Brookfield fire units covered Bethel stations during the incident.

The fire is under investigation by the Bethel Fire Marshal’s Office. No injuries were reported.
