This afternoon, just before 4:00 p.m., our department was requested for mutual aid to assist Bartlett Fire with a possible brush fire in Crawford Notch. Crews made the challenging hike into the area and discovered a small section of burned ground. Hot spots were quickly extinguished, and firefighters remained on scene to ensure there was no further spread.
We want to stress that the ongoing lack of rainfall has created very dry conditions, greatly increasing the risk of wildfires. While the views from places like Crawford Notch are breathtaking, firefighting in this rugged terrain presents serious challenges and dangers. Please do your part to help prevent wildfires—use extreme caution while enjoying the outdoors.
