Todays training gave Gilsum Fire Dept. members valuable hands-on experience in vehicle extrication. The session began with an in-depth review of scene safety, size-up, and stabilization techniques—critical steps to ensure firefighter and victim safety during real emergencies.
Firefighters then transitioned to practical skill work, utilizing a variety of tools for window and windshield removal. Hydraulic tools were also highlighted, giving firefighters the opportunity to practice their precision and technique. The training culminated in successfully removing a car door, an essential rescue skill.
While tonight’s drill covered key aspects of extrication, additional sessions will be scheduled to build on these skills and further prepare our members for real-world scenarios.
We extend our sincere thanks to Chris Johnson for generously donating a vehicle for training and to Emerson’s Towing for assisting with its transport—your support makes this training possible.
