Multiple Brush Fires Along Railroad Tracks Prompt Major Multi-Agency Response in North Conway
On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the North Conway Fire Department was dispatched to a series of brush fires along the railroad tracks, stretching from Sawmill Lane to the Cambria Hotel. Due to the scale of the incident, mutual aid was requested from surrounding communities, with assistance provided by the Conway Fire Department, Center Conway Fire & Rescue, Jackson Firefighters Association, Bartlett Fire, Bartlett-Jackson Ambulance Service, Madison Fire Department, Fryeburg Fire Department, Tamworth Fire Department, Center Ossipee, West Ossipee Fire Department, Action EMS, and the Conway Police Department.
During the response, flames extended to the Holiday Inn Express. Fire crews acted swiftly, containing and extinguishing the fire in the pool room and walkway areas. Their quick action prevented the blaze from spreading into the main section of the hotel, averting what could have been significant structural damage.
By 9:47 p.m., all brush fires had been knocked down, and crews began overhaul and cleanup operations. Later, after returning to quarters, the Conway Police Department’s drone unit conducted an aerial survey of the tracks. Several hotspots were identified, prompting North Conway firefighters to redeploy and fully extinguish them. The final units cleared the scene at 12:35 a.m.
The North Conway Firefighters Association extends heartfelt thanks to all mutual aid partners, as well as the many citizens and local businesses that provided water, sports drinks, and food throughout this extended incident.
