BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (Friday, Aug. 1, 2025) — Firefighters quickly knocked down a blaze Friday afternoon inside a three-story house on Court Street after a bystander reported possible entrapment, officials said.
The fire was discovered at 4:19 p.m. when crews at headquarters noticed smoke coming from 216 Court St., directly across the street. A full alarm was called, and firefighters forced entry through a boarded-up front door, according to the Binghamton Fire Department.
Inside, crews found a room-and-contents fire on the first floor, which was quickly extinguished. Primary searches throughout the building were negative, and no injuries were reported.
The fire was contained to the room of origin with no extension. NYSEG confirmed utilities had been disconnected prior to the blaze, and the building owner arrived to secure the property.
Binghamton police, NYSEG and Superior Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
