Fence Fire Extends to Garage in Reading

Box 303 was transmitted for reports of trees on fire close to a structure to the rear of 420 N 5th St in the City of Reading. As several other calls came in reporting a garage on fire Car 8(DC Rehr) arrived to find a working brush fire involving a fence and extending to a garage in the Alley behind the address. Engine 3 stretched a 1 3/4” line from a nearby parking lot over a half wall to quickly knock down the fire. Engine 7 stretched a secondary 1 3/4” line down the alley from Buttonwood st to help knock down hot spots. Crews made entry to the garage and confirmed there was no extension to the interior of the garage. Firefighters performed overhaul on the fence and exterior of the garage before placing the fire under control at 20:29 hours.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital for a minor injury. All units were clear within 45 minutes as the scene was turned over to the Fire Marshall.
