COEYMANS HOLLOW, N.Y. (Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025) — Severe thunderstorms brought down trees and power lines earlier this month in Coeymans Hollow, prompting a structure fire response on Deer Mountain Road Extension, officials said.
The Coeymans Hollow Volunteer Fire Corporation was dispatched after reports of a home filling with smoke. Assistant Chief Williams (Car 6-02) requested mutual aid from Ravena Fire, Selkirk Fire and the New Baltimore Fire Department FAST team for daytime coverage.
On arrival, no smoke or flames were visible. Crews discovered a live power line across the roadway caused by a fallen tree and confirmed there was no fire inside the home, according to Assistant Chief Kapusta (Car 6-03).
National Grid was notified of the snapped pole and downed wires. After ensuring there was no immediate hazard to the homeowner, all units cleared the scene.
The storms also forced several road closures, including Tracy Road from Moorehouse Road to Blodgett Hill. While Blodgett Hill and Stanton Road were later reopened, firefighters continued to respond to calls of downed trees and wires in the area of Keir Road and Blodgett Hill, where one tree was reported on fire.
Officials urged residents to use extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel, stay clear of downed wires and follow all detours and emergency personnel instructions
