Friday, 1 August 2025, at 8:23 PM – The Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department (JFD) responded to a fire alarm reporting four swimmers in distress, possibly submerged, in the area of Taylor Point and Potters Cove.
Crews quickly activated the Southern Rhode Island Marine Task Force, bringing multiple mutual aid marine assets to the scene. Upon arrival, responders found four individuals struggling in the water, with assistance already being attempted by good Samaritans and a member of the Jamestown Police Department.
JFD’s Drone 1 was deployed to provide aerial support, including thermal imaging, which helped crews locate the swimmers. All four individuals were safely brought to shore, evaluated by JFD EMS, and ultimately refused further medical care.
Thanks to the rapid, coordinated response, mutual aid companies were released and returned to their communities.
The JFD run card for the incident included: C5, C1, C2, R1, E3, and M1.
Officials praised the teamwork among local responders, mutual aid partners, and community members that contributed to the safe outcome.
