Firefighters from Harrison and several neighboring departments operated at a residential fire on North Fifth Street that extended into adjoining homes and required three alarms.

The fire was reported at approximately 2:20 a.m. on July 17, 2026, in Harrison, New Jersey, at 310 North Fifth Street. Harrison police arrived ahead of fire companies and reported heavy smoke and fire showing. Harrison Ladder 1, Engine 2 and Engine 4 arrived to find fire involving both floors with extension toward the homes at 308 and 312 North Fifth Street.

Engine 4 initiated the interior attack while Engine 2 protected the exposures. Ladder 1 conducted searches, ventilation and ladder operations. As conditions developed, the incident was upgraded to a second and then third alarm for additional personnel.

Kearny and Jersey City firefighters assisted with operations in the exposure buildings. Additional mutual-aid resources from East Newark, Bayonne and North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue provided fireground assistance and coverage during the incident.

Two residents were transported with minor injuries. A Kearny firefighter was also transported after sustaining a hand laceration. One dog died in the fire.

Companies remained on scene into the early morning conducting suppression and overhaul. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
