Overnight Structure Fire Turns Chaotic on Faraway Road: Apparatus Stolen During Dalton Response in Coos County

Littleton, NH - Littleton Fire Rescue units, along with Dalton Fire Rescue and mutual aid partners, responded shortly after 3:00 a.m. on August 25, 2026, to Faraway Road in Dalton, Coös County, New Hampshire, for a reported structure fire.


First-arriving crews found a building heavily involved in fire and immediately transitioned to defensive operations due to the advanced fire conditions. Firefighters established exposure protection and coordinated suppression efforts while operating in a rapidly deteriorating fireground environment.


During active operations, an individual unlawfully stole a fire apparatus from the scene and drove it in a dangerous manner, striking additional emergency vehicles and creating an immediate threat to firefighters working in the area. The situation escalated quickly, forcing crews to operate under extremely hazardous and unpredictable conditions.


Law enforcement responded to the incident, and the circumstances surrounding the fire, apparatus theft, and subsequent actions remain under investigation.


Despite the disruption, firefighters continued suppression efforts and worked to stabilize and bring the structure fire under control under challenging conditions.
