Teen Gets Hand Reportedly Caught in Storm Drain.

Shirley, N.Y.- On Friday the 5th of July of 2024 the Mastic Fire Department and Ambulance Company Were called out for a reported technical rescue at the William Floyd Elementary School at 111 Lexington Rd. Shirley. The report from Fire/ Rescue Dispatchers was that a child had caught his hand in the storm drain at the school.
Mastic FD Asst. Chief Sunderman responded to the Scene of the school. After getting additional details he was able to locate the Child and EMS on the back side of the building off the Meadowmere St. Entrance. Rescue Truck 5-12-10 responded into the scene to assess the situation as did a crew from Mastic Ambulance and A Fire Police Unit from Mastic FD. A short time after Arriving it was determined the child’s hand was freed without the use of any special tools. Asst. Chief Sunderman Gave all FD units a Signal 5 (return to quarters). EMS remained on scene to ensure the child was ok . The child was a no transport. No further info was available.
