Firefighters from multiple departments battled a heavily involved residential fire that claimed the lives of four family members, including three children.

Newport-area firefighters were dispatched to the 100 block of North Front Street and arrived to find the residence fully involved. The fire occurred during the early-morning hours of July 5 in Newport, Pennsylvania.

As crews worked the incident, mutual-aid companies from surrounding communities responded. Mifflintown Hose Company No. 1 responded with Engine 2, while Friendship Fire Company No. 1 was also among the companies assisting. Additional departments responded or provided station coverage during the incident.

The Perry County Coroner's Office identified the victims as David Carr, 38, his 16-year-old daughters Makenzie and Hannah Carr, and his 6-year-old daughter Paige Carr. All four were reportedly located on the first floor. Two neighboring residences were also damaged by the fire.

Some mutual-aid crews remained committed for several hours. Mifflintown personnel responding to Newport were sent directly to another working fire in Tuscarora Township at approximately 6:30 a.m., according to department-supplied information.

The Pennsylvania State Police Newport Station and Troop H Fire Marshal Unit investigated the cause of the fire.
